The National Committee for the Release of Political Hostages and Prisoners of Tajikistan (NCRPH) regrets to report about the serious and heavy condition of Muslim Kuzov (brother of Shohnaim Karim) in prison. NCRPH calls all Human Rights Organizations and Diplomatic Corps inside the country to warn the Tajik authorities to respect human rights and refrain from torture of detainees.
According to available information the Tajik security forces tortured Muslim Kuzov to the point that his left side was paralyzed and his vision seriously deteriorated.
Muslim Kuzov was arrested more than six months ago without being charged, and then tried without charge in the absence of a lawyer. The court sentenced him to 18 years in prison. He is currently being held in prison No. 4, known as “1st Soviet”, and is not allowed to contact his relatives.
According to his relatives, he was asked to make a statement against his brother Shohnaim Karim (Mirzorahim Kuzov), deputy chairman of the IRPT and member of the Supreme Council of the National Alliance of Tajikistan (NPT), who is currently in Europe as a political refugee.
The National Committee for the Release of Political Hostages and Prisoners of Tajikistan (NCRPH) strongly condemns this unjustified and inhumane act by the Tajik security services and calls on all local and international human rights organizations to intervene and urge the Tajik government to respect human rights and refrain from torture of prisoners.
